The Legal tab is used to add or update legal status information for a visit. Crime and legal requirement information can also be added. This information can be used for facilities that serve patients who are incarcerated for crimes.

To add legal status detail, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Add  button. A row is added to the list, and the Status, Eff. Date, and Case # fields are enabled.
  2. Status – Click the drop-down menu and select the legal status for the patient.
  1. Eff. Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  2. Case # – Enter the alphanumeric court case number. The remaining fields are enabled.

  1. Term. Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar. This is the date that the patient’s commitment will be terminated by the court.
  2. DOC # – Enter the alphanumeric Department of Corrections identification number.
  3. Primary – Check to indicate the status as primary.
  4. Prim. Eff. Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  5. Prim. Term. Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  1. Commitment/Adjudication Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar. This is the date the patient was committed to the facility.
  2. Credit Amount – Enter the amount of days credited prior to commitment.
  3. Mandatory Rel. Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  4. Expire/Max Rel. Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  5. County Court – Click the drop-down menu and select the court.
  6. Branch – Enter the branch.
  7. Agent # – Enter the ID number for the parole agent.
  8. Parole Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar. This is the patient’s eligible parole date.
  9. 980 Petition Req – Check to indicate that a petition to classify the patient as a sexually violent person is required prior to discharge. Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  10. Sex Off. Reg. Req – Check to indicate that the patient is required to register with the state as a sex offender. Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  11. DNA Testing Req – Check to indicate that the patient is required to complete a DNA test. Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  12. SBN Req – Check to indicate that a Special Bulletin Notification for a sex offender is required to be sent to local law enforcement, schools, neighborhood groups, etc. prior to the patient’s release. Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar.
  13. Dual Commitment – Check to indicate that patient is committed under Chapter 980 but has been returned to the Department of Corrections for a previous or subsequent criminal sentence.
  14. Term Extendable – Check to indicate the patient’s commitment term can be extended.
  15. Life. Check to indicate the patient is serving a life sentence.
  16. Pre-commitment Credited? – Check to indicate that the patient was credited for time served in custody while awaiting commitment.
  17. Two Strikes – Check to indicate the patient has previously been convicted of two violent crimes.
  18. Detainer – Check to indicate the patient has a detainer.
  19. Order To Treat – Check to indicate the patient is to be treated to competency.

  1. Click Save.
Update Legal Status

All information other than the status and effective date can be updated. To update legal status details, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a legal status in the list to select it.
  2. Update any available information.
  3. Click Save.
Delete Legal Status

To delete a legal status, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a legal status in the list to select it.
  2. Click the Delete  button. The legal status is removed from the list.
  3. Click Save.

Crime

The Crime tab is used to add crime information for the legal status, including crime modifiers.

To add a crime, follow these steps:

  1. Select a Legal Status in the Legal tab. The Crime tab is enabled.
  2. Click the Add  button. A row is added to the list with the legal status defaulted, and the Crime Information and Modifier Information sections are enabled.
  3. Crime – Enter a crime code in the first field or a crime description in the autocomplete field (clicking a suggested description to select it).
  4. Counts – Enter the number of counts for the crime.

  1. Click Save.
Delete a Crime

To delete a crime, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a crime in the list to select it.
  2. Click the Delete  button. The crime is removed from the list.
  3. Click Save.

Modifier

Crime modifiers add more complete and accurate data related to crimes, allowing more in-depth analysis. To add a modifier, follow these steps:

  1. Select a crime in the Crime Status list. The Modifier section is enabled.
  2. Click the Add  button. A row is added to the list.
  3. Modifier – Enter a crime modifier code in the first field or a crime modifier description in the autocomplete field (clicking a suggested description to select it).

  1. Click Save.
Delete Modifier

To delete a crime modifier, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a crime modifier in the list to select it.
  2. Click the Delete  button. The modifier is removed from the list.
  3. Click Save.

Legal Requirement

The Legal Requirement tab is used to add, update, and delete the completion dates for various legal requirements assigned to the visit. These requirements match the requirements (980 Petition, DNA Testing, SBN, Sex Offender Registration) from the Legal tab.

To add a requirement, follow these steps:

  1. Select a Legal Status in the Legal tab. The Legal Requirement tab is enabled.
  2. Click the Add  button. A row is added to the list, and the Legal Requirement Information section is enabled.
  3. Requirement – Click the drop-down menu and select a legal requirement.
  4. Completion Date – Click the field to enter the date directly or click to select a date from a calendar. This is the deadline for completing the requirement.

  1. Click Save.
Update Legal Requirement Completion Date

To update a requirement completion date, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a requirement in the list to select it.
  2. Change the Completion Date.
  3. Click Save.
Delete Legal Requirement

To delete a requirement, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a requirement in the list to select it.
  2. Click the Delete  button. The requirement is removed from the list.
  3. Click Save.
