What is Putty?
PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. PuTTY is open source software that is available with source code and is developed and supported by a group of volunteers. More information is available at http://www.putty.org/.
1.Download the newest version of putty at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
2.Take all the defaults for the install.
3.To open putty, all you have to do is make a shortcut to the putty.exe.
4.Once you open putty, you can enter a few settings to make future connections faster. Note: For servers with the Window’s OS use Telnet. For Linux installations us SSH.

You can make more changes depending on the type of server that you are connecting to.
5.Make sure that you name the session in the Saved Sessions window and click the Save button before you select Open.
