Home EHR Carevue Frequently Asked Questions Restarting Lab Orders and Results Interfaces Connected to DI – Cache

  1. Log in to the server where Data Innovations’ Instrument Manager is loaded. If Instrument Manager is not running, double click on the Instrument Manager Icon on the desktop, and login.

  1. Click on System Status to show the Status window.

  1. You will now see a screen similar to the following appear:

The two interfaces highlighted above are for lab orders and results. Yours may be named something slightly different. In the screenshot, OpenVista Orders is the orders interface and OpenVista Results is the results interface. If they say Connecting instead of On then they are down and need to be restarted. Sometimes even when they say On, you may see numbers in the InQ (orders) or SendQ (results) columns that do not clear, indicating that the interface does need to be restarted. If you see this happen, click on the interface with numbers accumulating in the InQ or SendQ columns and click Stop Selected Connections. Once the interface is stopped, click Start Selected Connections and then you should see it go to a Connecting state.

  1. The next step is to sign in to putty and verify that there is only 1 task running for each interface in Task Manager.

If there are “multiple” tasks in Taskman, they will need to be cleaned up

Running tasks…

A list of tasks will display and you should look for any tasks that have LAB INTERFACE2 (orders) or LAB INTERFACER (results). Take note of the task number before the colon and the Job # associated with any of these as you press enter through the list. There should only be two Lab Interface jobs running and they will look like these:

——————————————————————————-
130671194: ^HLLP, HL7 Message Processor for LAB INTERFACER.
Device DATA INNOVATIONR – INBOUND.  XXXX,XXXX.  From Today at 13:03,
By FRENCH,JIM.  Started running Today at 13:03.
Job #: 5360 [14F0]
——————————————————————————-
130671460: ^HLLP, HL7 Message Processor for LAB INTERFACE2.
Device DATA INNOVATIONS – OUTBOUND.  XXXX,XXXX.  From Today at 13:24, By   FRENCH,JIM.  Started running Today at 13:24.
Job #: 5616 [15F0]

  1. If there are more than one of each task for LAB INTERFACE2 or LAB INTERFACER, you should clean them up by doing the following (remember that you only need to perform these steps for LAB INTERFACE2 if orders are not crossing from OpenVista to DI or LAB INTERFACER if results are not crossing from DI to OpenVista):

Schedule/Unschedule Options
One-time Option Queue
Taskman Management Utilities …

Select Taskman Management Option: cleanup Task List

This will allow you to remove entries from TaskMan’s list of
running tasks that you believe are not running.
The questions will be asked assuming you have just killed a task

Type <Enter> to continue or ‘^’ to exit: ^

Which tasks did you forcibly exit (?T for list): <– This is where you would type the task number you want to remove. If it is the orders interface that is a problem then you would type the number of each LAB INTERFACE2 task or for results you would type the number of each LAB INTERFACER task and press enter.

It should say it successfully removed the task. If not, you will need to kill the job first using the Cache portal or by using the D ^JOBEXAM command at the Programmer prompt after using the ZN “%SYS” command (where the PID is the job number you wrote down above).

  1. Now you should not have any tasks running for the interface that you are having troubles with. To start the interface (task) do the following:

Core Applications …
Device Management …
Menu Management …
Programmer Options …
Operations Management …
Spool Management …
Information Security Officer Menu …
Taskman Management …
User Management …
VA FileMan …
Application Utilities …
Capacity Planning …

Test an option not in your menu

Select Systems Manager Menu Option: test an option not in your menu
Option entry to test: hl7 v1.5 OPTIONS  HL MENU 1.5     HL7 V1.5 OPTIONS

1      Non-DHCP Application Parameter Enter/Edit
2      Initiate Background Task
3      Start/Stop Log of HL7 Transmissions
4      Non-DHCP Application Parameters Print/Display

Select HL7 V1.5 OPTIONS Option: 2  Initiate Background Task

Note:  You must select a Non-DHCP Application for which an HL7 Device has been defined.
Select HL7 NON-DHCP APPLICATION PARAMETER NAME: LAB
1   LAB INTERFACE2       058     DII     LA AUTO INST
2   LAB INTERFACER       058     DII     LA AUTO INST

CHOOSE 1-2: <– You will now see both the interfaces as options. Type either 1 or 2 and press enter depending on which interface you need to start. Remember that LAB INTERFACE2 is the orders interface and LAB INTERFACER is the results interface.

  1. Now you should only have one task running per interface in the running list of tasks in Taskman and you should see the connection that was having troubles go to a status in Data Innovations’ Instrument Manager of ON instead of Connecting.
