To print to an HFS device on a Linux Box you simply type “HFS” at the device prompt (see below instructions). You will need to give the file a valid filename. It won’t need an extension and it will be a text file that you can cat out or copy to your desktop and then open with a text editor.
Note that on a Windows/Cache box, you won’t have the ability to place the file where you can get to it unless you have remote desktop capabilities as the HFS path will be predefined to a location like “C:\ tmp” or something similar that you can’t get to via a putty session. If you have remote desktop capability and want to place the file in a certain location, you can by simply putting in a valid path with a valid filename like “C:\testdirectory\testfile.txt” or something similar – but again, you will need remote desktop to see this location on the server. You don’t need an extension but “txt” is usually used so you can open in notepad on the server.

Select OPTION: PRINT FILE ENTRIES
Output from what File: DEVICE// (466 entries)

First Print FIELD: NAME
Then Print FIELD: $I
Then Print FIELD:
Heading (S/C): DEVICE List//
DEVICE: HFS Host File Server
HOST FILE NAME: /tmp////home/john.doe/devicelist.txt
If you don’t give the HOSTFILE NAME a proper path and file name (in the example above I used “/home/john.doe/devicelist.txt”) it will give you a “DEVICE BUSY” message.

DEVICE: HFS Host File Server
HOST FILE NAME: /tmp////home/john.doe –> I just gave it a path to my home directory – that won’t work! You have to specify a filename. The filename doesn’t need an extension and will end up being a text file.
[DEVICE IS BUSY]
DEVICE: HFS Host File Server
HOST FILE NAME: /tmp////home/john.doe/testfile –> Now there will be a text file called “testfile” in my home directory.
